With the Ryder Cup almost upon us, all the golf and mainstream media are in an escalating frenzy over the latest team news, odds and form guides etc. Sunday Slicers thought we’d take an alternate view.
You’ve probably seen, with the rise and ever-growing sophistication of Artificial Intelligence, the ‘spirit’ of everything from banks to car brands are being ‘reimagined’ as animals. So, following a trial ahead of The Open a few months ago, we decided to expand out to cover all 12 of Luke Donald’s gladiators heading to Rome.
The process
We gave ChatGPT the prompt ‘Rory McIlroy spirit represented as an animal’ etc, and were presented with a conclusion and rationale. Unfortunately, it didn’t have enough to go on for Bob MacIntyre and Sepp Straka, so we had to help it by feeding in some of the character traits the internet associates with those golfers. We then took the 12 results and fed them each into MidJourney‘s text-to-image bot, along with prompts for the attire and background, and iterated until we hit on the image that seemed to encapsulate the essence of the golfer’s appearance and / or character.
The outcome
Here’s what ChatGPT came up with for each of the dozen heading to Rome:
Rory McIlroy – Lion (Courage, Strength, Leadership, Charisma, Loyalty)
Tommy Fleetwood – Cheetah (Agility, Grace, Focus, Patience, Strategic)
Jon Rahm – Bull (Strength, Tenacity, Passion, Emotion, Determination)
Justin Rose – Eagle (Vision, Precision, Discipline, Leadership, Resilience)
Sepp Straka – Hawk (Focus, Precision, Determination, Grace, Agility)
Ludvig Aberg – Tiger (Calm, Fearless, Physical)
Viktor Hovland – Dolphin (Composure, Friendly, Resilience, Youthful Energy)
Nicolai Højgaard – Eagle (Youthful Talent, Determination, Focus, Adaptability)
Matt Fitzpatrick – Hawk (Analytical, Consistent, Meticulous, Focus, Calm)
Tyrrell Hatton – Wolf (Determined, Tenacious, Fearless, Loyal, Focus)
Bob MacIntyre – Elephant (Easy Going, Serious, Hardworking)
Shane Lowry – Golden Retriever (Friendly, Resilient, Steady, Laid-Back)
So here they all are, in all in their animalistic glory. We can’t help wonder what our European heroes will make of their reimagining! If you’re reading this chaps, do let us know!
